Building a HIPAA-compliant video platform in 11 weeks
An 11-week telemedicine launch is possible when you buy the commodity parts (WebRTC media, scheduling) and spend your weeks on clinical workflow, consent capture and the EMR write-back.

Weeks 1–2: workflow, not code
We map the entire patient journey — scheduling, eligibility check, intake, consent, the visit, the summary, follow-up — and identify which steps are commodity and which encode the clinic's protocols.
Everything commodity gets bought. Everything protocol-specific gets built.
Weeks 3–8: the build
Media: a HIPAA-eligible WebRTC provider under a BAA, with adaptive bitrate for low-bandwidth patients. We do not operate our own SFU.
Scheduling and eligibility: integrated so the patient sees real availability and a pre-visit insurance check runs automatically.
Consent: captured and timestamped before the visit starts, stored as a first-class record.
Documentation: the clinician works from the same note interface they already use; the visit summary writes back to the EMR.
Weeks 9–11: pilot and harden
A supervised pilot with real clinicians surfaces the workflow friction that no amount of internal testing finds. We fix, re-test and then open it up.
The three shortcuts we refused: skipping consent capture, skipping EMR write-back, and skipping the low-bandwidth media path. Each one would have made the demo faster and the product unusable in production.
Frequently asked questions
- How fast can a telemedicine platform realistically launch?
- About 11 weeks for a white-label platform, if you use a compliant third-party WebRTC provider and focus custom work on clinical workflow, consent and EMR integration.
- Should we build our own video infrastructure?
- No. Use a HIPAA-eligible WebRTC provider under a Business Associate Agreement. Operating your own media servers adds months and a large compliance burden for no clinical benefit.
- What makes a telehealth visit 'clinically complete'?
- Timestamped consent, documentation that writes back to the EMR, an automatic post-visit summary, and a follow-up path — not just the video call.
